The Armored Combat Woods Battle

The Varg ballista after it was pulled back from the front lines.  You can see how closely spaced the trees are in this zone. The Varg still managed to get 17 kills because the ballista stock was turret mounted and easy to aim between the trees.  They blasted the East Kingdom banner guard that was guarding a banner 20 yards in front of the ballista.  Midrealm troops protected the siege engine while it was firing.

The other ballista that was used in the woods.  This one was not turret mounted, so the base had to be moved to aim the ballista.  Both ballistae had to be carried part way into the woods.  The crew of this ballista were killed by archery fire during the battle, but other siege engineers stepped in to shoot it while the original crew was ressurecting.

Spear dueling in the woods battle.

It was difficult to focus the camera with all the motion in the field of view.  Motion which tended to blur the images as well.

After the first half hour, the lines started to engage.  This was after the ballistas had used up their bolts and were pulled back from the front line.

Sir Raymond D'Anjou, marshalling.

The woods have terrain features.

I was marshalling this battle which was why I was able to get such good closeup shots of the action.  I'm not sure if marshals are supposed to be taking pictures, but we had plenty of other marshals watching the action.

A crossbow in the woods battle.  Combat archery was allowed in the woods battle for the first time a couple of years ago.

A Miezko sighting in the woods.
