The Great Wall Battle
This battle simulated an attack on the Great Wall of China. There were three towers on the wall with banners at the center of each tower. Control of the banners determined who would win the battle. Siege engines could not shoot through the side of the towers, but could shoot onto the walls. There were only two points on each side where troops could get onto the walls. These were the points where we concentrated our fire power.
The Midrealm had 17 siege engines at the start of this battle and the East Kingdom had 3. Despite this overwhelming superiority in siege engines, we still lost the battle. Whoever took the towers first won. Defense dominated and the towers never fell. The siege engines got lots of kills, but of troops in the rear ranks since they could not shoot into the towers. These troops resurrected faster than they could be shot by the siege engines. However, the engineers had a great time shooting people. I remember Bone Grinder Bill and Thorvald of Shadowclans high fiving each other and bonking helms after a good hit.
The Pentamere ballista corp which is made up of Shadowclans, Ironwolf, and the
Varg. Even Baron Master Foscahd came out to crew an engine. He has
fought in every single Pennsic.
The two brown engines are my engines, the Ironwolf engines. Petra is on
the far engine, the Osis, and Morgan is on the near engine, the Cormac.
The red engines are the Shadowclan engines. They have six of them at
Pennsic, but only 5 were assembled this year. A shortage of siege
engineers made assembling the sixth engine pointless, although parts from the
sixth were used for spare parts on other ballistas. No more than 4
Shadowclan engines were used in any battle.
